The agreement will provide a seamless pathway for students graduating from Tennessee College of Applied Technology Morristown with a diploma in drafting to transfer to Northeast State Community College to pursue an associate degree in Industrial Technology – Engineering Design Technology.
Northeast State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Science Morristown have formed a partnership that will pave a seamless transfer pathway for students pursuing an associate degree in industrial technology. The new articulation agreement will give students who have obtained a diploma in drafting from TCAT Morristown the ability to transfer their credits to Northeast State Community College and continue their journey toward an associate degree in Industrial Technology – Engineering Design Technology.
According to an article on Northeast State Community College’s website, Dr. Nathan Weber, who serves as the college’s assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, was quoted as saying of the new agreement, “This articulation agreement between TCAT Morristown and Northeast State will provide students in the field of Drafting an opportunity to continue their education. It is a great pathway for the students of Northeast Tennessee, and we value the opportunity to work with TCAT Morristown.”
The articulation agreement states that anyone who earns a diploma in drafting from TCAT Morristown can transfer up to 26 credit hours toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Technology – Engineering Design Technology at Northeast State Community College. This will save students who want to ultimately earn their associate degree time and money by being able to get a head start on the process at TCAT Morristown.
The agreement came about due to the collaboration of two faculty members from both institutions. The relationship between Daniel Arnett from Northeast State Community College and Darren Aldred from TCAT Morristown was the catalyst for pursuing the agreement.
Speaking of this relationship, Weber said, “Their passion for their program and their students is second to none in the articulation agreements I’ve had the opportunity to work on.”
The drafting diploma prepares students to be able to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to translate design concepts into architectural drawings, and the Engineering Design Technology program takes these skills a step further, preparing students to work for architectural firms, construction companies, and engineering companies, among others.
President Susanne Cox of TCAT Morristown said, “We are super excited about this opportunity for our students. This will be another tool in their toolbox to make them more valuable in the workforce.”
