Davenport University provides scholarships via Northwest Education Services Foundation

Northwest Education Services Foundation, or North Ed, is a new nonprofit organization that helps students in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties remove barriers to furthering their education.

Davenport University is continuing to help make college more affordable for more individuals by working with Northwest Education Services Foundation, a new nonprofit organization, to provide scholarships for students residing in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties to attend Davenport University or Northwestern Michigan College after they complete any program in North Ed’s Career Tech.

According to an article on Davenport University’s website, Zach Whitaker, who serves as the director of Davenport University’s Traverse City campus, was quoted as saying, “Davenport’s mission is tied to empowering people through education and opening access so all who want a college credential have the opportunity to earn it. We are committed to alleviating financial barriers, and this scholarship is one piece of smoothing the pathway for students to take advantage of what Davenport has to offer.”

He continued, “We are excited to continue our mission to support students advancing their education after completing Career Tech programs. Whether they join us at our main campus in Grand Rapids or leverage our University Center partnership to attend Northwestern Michigan College, students have a pathway to success that minimizes financial burdens.”

The North Ed Foundation supports students who live in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties by providing scholarships for further education, such as the one offered by Davenport University, offering an emergency fund to help students with food, transportation, or medical costs while in school, and by providing a Tools of the Trade Fund, which is like a scholarship but for individuals who will be heading directly into a job instead of pursuing further education.

Pat Lamb, who is the president of the North Ed Foundation as well as North Ed’s assistant superintendent of Career and Technical Education, said of the work the foundation does, “Through the North Ed Foundation, we can help those in our school community who truly need it. These scholarships are a game-changer for students who face barriers to continuing their education and achieving their goals.”

Through the North Ed Foundation, Davenport University is offering two renewable $1,000 scholarships for any student who completes a program through North Ed’s Career Tech. The scholarship will be applicable at Davenport University’s campuses in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, as well as at Northwestern Michigan College.
