The expanded partnership between the university and the healthcare organization includes establishing a site for Shawnee State University’s College of Health & Human Services within Adena Health’s PACCAR Medical Education Center.
Shawnee State University and Adena Health are expanding upon their already established relationship to bring more opportunities for nursing and healthcare education to Shawnee State University students. The expanded partnership will involve the two institutions coming together to provide space for Shawnee State University’s College of Health & Human Services inside of the PACCAR Medical Education Center, which is located in Adena Health in Chillicothe.
According to an article on Shawnee State University’s website, the president and CEO of Adena Health, Jeff Graham, was quoted as saying of the way this partnership will benefit the organization, “By being able to offer this curriculum on our campus, we will be able to welcome students to train here, get their clinical experience here, and hopefully step into open roles here as efforts to meet community needs continue to grow.”
The benefits of the partnership include a pipeline of talented and qualified potential employees for Adena Health, who will have received training in Adena Health facilities, and increased access to local healthcare and education for Shawnee State University students, with the added bonus of potentially becoming employed locally by Adena Health.
The programs that will be available within the Shawnee State University College of Health & Human Services inside the PACCAR Medical Education Center include nursing and radiologic science to begin with, with planned expansion to include medical laboratory technology, occupational therapy, physical therapist assistant, and respiratory therapy.
Shawnee State University President Eric Braun said, “The best thing we can do is recruit local talent and keep it in southern and south central Ohio. We have a lot of people who want to stay in the region professionally, so the more we’re able to provide attractive offerings like this, the more we’re going to be able to retain this local talent.”
The goal is to reinforce and fill gaps within the region’s healthcare by giving students quality healthcare education and opportunities to become familiar with a local healthcare provider, all of which will help the area retain qualified healthcare workers.
