Southern State Community College to host professional development series

The series of courses is open to the public and will address evolving to meet the needs of changing workplaces.

Southern State Community College is hosting a series of professional development courses that will be open to the public and will provide participants with a certificate of completion, demonstrating that they have taken a course that addresses one of the many ever-changing components of the modern workplace. Courses will occur roughly twice a month from September through May.

The courses will be facilitated and led by Filomena Nelson, the owner of APEx Training Associates. Nelson is an educator who leads professional development courses that focus on communication skills, leadership, and organization.

According to an article on Southern State Community College’s website, Amy McClellan, who serves as the Executive Director of Workforce Development at the school, explained the purpose of these courses and why Southern State Community College has chosen to offer them to the public. She said, “Offering these professional development courses helps Southern State to continue its ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and success of individuals in our community. By providing accessible and high-quality learning experiences, we strive to contribute to the development of a skilled and competitive workforce.”

The sessions include topics like Managing Conflict with Confidence, Working More Effectively with your Leader, Navigating Difficult Conversations, Strategies for Improving Relationships with Colleagues, Workplace DiSC: Appreciating Diverse Styles, and Building your Influencing Skills, among a host of others. There is a maximum of 25 participants per session, so registering early is recommended. There is a cost for each session, but the cost varies based on course, with the prices ranging from $190 to $350. Each session will be either a half-day or full-day of learning.
