Sinclair Community College forms articulation agreement with NPower

Anyone who completes NPower’s free program and earns industry credentials can receive up to nine credits at Sinclair Community College.

Sinclair Community College and NPower have partnered to make earning college credit easier and cheaper for students in Ohio. A new articulation agreement between Sinclair Community College and NPower, a nationwide organization that recently opened an Ohio location to provide free training in technology, ensures that students who complete NPower’s free Tech Fundamentals program will be able to transfer up to nine credits to Sinclair Community College toward programs in Information Technology and Computer Science.

According to an article on Sinclair Community College’s website, Arian L. Adducchio, who serves as the Coordinator for Prior Learning Assessment & Individualized Programs, explained the benefits of the partnership. Adducchio is quoted as saying, "Sinclair Community College recognizes the diverse learning experiences our students bring to their educational journeys. Our partnership with NPower and the creation of a new Credit Recognition Guide exemplifies our dedication to supporting our community by validating and celebrating various forms of learning. By awarding college credit for industry training, we invest in participants enabling them to advance their careers and education more efficiently and affordably.”

NPower is an organization that provides free technology and career training to women in underserved communities, people connected with the military, and young adults. Its Tech Fundamentals program can be completed in as few as six months and provides virtual instruction in information technology. As part of the program, participants will have opportunities for paid internships, the ability to earn industry certifications, mentoring, workshops, and job placement assistance.

The partnership between Sinclair Community College and NPower will further assist students who complete NPower’s free program in continuing their education and working toward a career in information technology. Students who complete the program and earn industry certifications while doing so will be able to transfer up to nine credits to Sinclair, which will help students more affordably earn a college degree or certificate.

Demarus Crawford-White, who is the Executive Director of NPower Ohio, shared his thoughts about this partnership, saying, "Sinclair is one of the top community colleges in the state and in the nation, renowned for its commitment to student success and innovative programs. The credit recognition guide that Sinclair College has created for NPower is ‘simply simple.’ It's clear and easy to understand. All the information that a student would need to make the best decision for them is right there in plain English in chart form on one page. The student is now empowered to simply choose the program that makes the most sense for them.”

Students who are interested in transferring credit to Sinclair via this partnership with NPower should complete a Prior Learning Assessment with Sinclair Community College.
