Cincinnati State Technical and Community College introduces Cincinnati State Recovery Community for students

The new resource for students will provide assistance and support for those who are in any stage of recovery for a variety of issues.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College has introduced a new student resource with the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. The Cincinnati State Recovery Community is now available to help students who are struggling with substance abuse, mental health, and many other issues.

According to an article on Cincinnati State Technical and Community College’s website, funding for the Cincinnati State Recovery Community was provided by a grant from the Ohio Department of Education, and the program is a member of the Association of Recovery in Higher Education. The Association of Recovery in Higher Education is a network of faculty members, staff, students, administrators, and professionals that aims to provide support for recovery programs in colleges and universities.

The new program is designed to help students in any stage of their recovery journey, whether their recovery is from mental health, substance abuse, self harm, or any number of other issues. The program aims to be compassionate toward students and use harm reduction techniques to assist during the recovery process.

Holly Stoddard, MSSA, LISW, LICDC, serves as the coordinator for Recovery Community. Stoddard is a trauma-informed therapist and harm reductionist and is a faculty member for the Addiction Studies program and the Human & Social Services program at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Eric Smith, who serves as the Triage Coordinator for Cincinnati State Counseling Services, will also have a role in the Recovery Community. Smith will be the supervisor for Peer Support and Community Resources that are provided through Recovery Community.

There is a drop in space for students who wish to utilize the services provided by Recovery Community. Here, students will be able to receive support for their recovery, get help on their homework, attend programs and groups, or just meet with members of their community. There are a number of potential support groups in the works to begin with the Fall 2024 semester, including a gambling & gaming support group, a SMART Recovery group, a veterans and military support group, and a self-compassion support group, among others.
