Lipscomb University introduces new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program

The program is available to students who already have a bachelor degree or higher in any field and will allow students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in as little as 16 months thanks to its hybrid format.

Lipscomb University has a new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program that can be completed in as little as 16 months, giving the opportunity to step into nursing to anyone who already has a bachelor degree or higher in any field of study.

According to an article on Lipscomb University’s website, Candice McQueen, the president of Lipscomb University, was quoted discussing the ways in which this new degree program will bolster the region and foster a caring community. McQueen said, “For more than 130 years, health sciences education has been a vital component of Lipscomb University’s academic program. One of the ways we serve this community is by producing highly trained professionals who are filling workforce needs in the Nashville area. Our new Accelerated BSN program exemplifies this commitment by enabling individuals to transition into nursing more quickly while maintaining the high standards of our traditional nursing program.”

The new accelerated nursing program will make it possible for an individual to receive their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within 16 months of starting the program. This will mean that the program will be able to quickly produce more degree-level nursing candidates to fill in the gaps in Nashville’s healthcare industry. The ABSN program will mirror the already-successful traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Lipscomb University, which prepares college-educated nurses and boasts impressive national certification exam scores. Lipscomb University upholds a strong network of healthcare partnerships in Nashville, such as the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the National Healthcare Corporation.

Chelsia Harris, the executive director of Lipscomb’s School of Nursing, said of the new program delivery format, “With the Accelerated BSN program, we are opening doors for more individuals to join the most trusted profession in America. Our program is designed to nurture the mind, body, and soul of both students and patients, providing a Christ-centered environment that promotes academic success and character development.”

Chief nursing officer at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown Jessica Darnell shared her outsider’s perspective of the new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, as well. She said, “There is a huge demand for nurses in the healthcare industry, and more students are looking for flexible options to pursue a nursing degree. Lipscomb University's Accelerated BSN program offers the perfect balance of meeting the nursing demand in a way that works for students. The result will be well-prepared, compassionate nurses who are ready to lead and meet the growing need to serve our community.”
