The new Center for Games and Interactive Entertainment officially opened on February 4 and serves as a home for various gaming resources, equipment, and spaces for student relaxation. It will also be utilized by professors to incorporate gaming into their students’ learning.
The designation makes the university the first Franciscan research university in the country.
The university’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program launched in 2021 and has seen two cohorts of graduate students provide free services to the community, including speech therapy for children and routine screenings.
The new program will launch at IU East in the summer or fall semester, and students are already participating in the program at IU Kokomo.
The donation comes from Encompass Credit Union and will support scholarships for individuals working as paraprofessionals and aides in Howard and Tipton counties who want to become teachers.
The repurposed building is now home to student services that focus on students’ mental health and wellbeing, including Student Wellness, Substance Use Intervention Services, and the Collegiate Recovery Community.
The university is collaborating with the University of Dayton and Central State University to train K-12 teachers to teach STEM subjects.
The gift comes from Bob and Jan Archer who have established the Janet L. Archer Ashland Center for Nonviolence Endowed Fund.
The $23 million grant will increase the number of spots in the program by more than 70%.
