The partnership will give Sweetwater employees the opportunity to pursue their college education at Ivy Tech Community College with up to 90% tuition reimbursement.

The grant funding is designed to help the state’s colleges and universities improve their nursing programs to help alleviate the state’s shortage of qualified nurses.

The funding comes via the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and will help the university bolster nursing program enrollment and recruit and retain faculty within the nursing department.

The college and the health center have come together to offer the Mark Doak Award, a scholarship for current Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center employees and their families to attend Davis & Elkins College.

The gift comes via the estate of Frances and Richard Rumley, both graduates of the school that would become the University of Charleston.

The grants come from West Virginia’s Nursing Workforce Expansion Program and from Coalfield Health.
