Tennessee Technological University professor honored as first recipient of the David K. Morgan Faculty Fellowship

Ann Davis, Ph.D. is the coordinator for the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program at Tennessee Tech.

Tennessee Technological University's Ann Davis has been awarded the David K. Morgan Faculty Fellowship, a recognition that is given to those on the faculty who provide meaningful service to the university and teach effectively.

According to an article on Tennessee Technological University’s website, David K. Morgan, who is the namesake of and philanthropist behind the fellowship, met Ann Davis during Homecoming Weekend’s Evening of Excellence Alumni Awards, at which he himself was honored with the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association’s Outstanding Philanthropy Award.

After graduating in 1974 with a degree in accounting, Morgan went on to found Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC, which is now known as LBMC. Morgan has been a long time donor to Tennessee Technological University, particularly in the interest of providing scholarships and international travel for students in the accounting program. 

Morgan said of his decision to create the David K. Morgan Faculty Fellowship, “I have always thought it important to support Tech because this is where my professional education occurred. All my professional success can be traced back to the excellent education that I received here. I will always be grateful to Tech for all it has provided to me, and I hope I can continue to provide the support that allows future students and faculty members to be successful.”

Of receiving the recognition, Davis said, “I am honored to receive this award at this point in my career. As coordinator of our MAcc program, I am committed to bringing innovative ideas to our hybrid program. I hope that this award will allow me time to focus on research, especially research informing my classroom and impacting the accounting profession.”

Davis has been working at Tennessee Tech since 2012, aftering having graduated from Tech herself in 2000. She has undergraduate degrees in accounting and finance, and went on to earn a master’s and a PhD from the University of Tennessee. She is also a certified professional accountant.

Morgan said of Davis, “I am very happy that she is the first recipient of the David K. Morgan Faculty Fellowship.”
