The new partnership will allow NSCC students with one of 17 associate’s degrees and one technical certificate to transfer credits to pursue a bachelor degree at CSU.
Nashville State Community College has entered into an agreement with Columbia Southern University that will serve as a pathway for students to continue pursuing their education after earning an associate’s degree.
According to an article on Nashville State Community College’s website, Dr. Johannah Williams, who is the vice president for Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Nashville State Community College, explained the idea behind the partnership, saying, “Providing pathways for graduates either directly to the workforce or their higher education journey, so they have options and may be able to increase their marketability is a critical function of the College. Through this partnership with Columbia Southern University, Nashville State graduates have one more option available to them.”
Columbia Southern University prides itself on offering an alternative route to traditional education by providing online courses for students to earn associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master’s degrees, and even doctoral degrees.
Among the programs included in the transferability agreement are Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Environmental Management, Health Care Administration, Psychology, and Information Technology. A unique aspect of this agreement is that it is the first agreement to allow Computer Information Technology AAS graduates to go on to earn any Information Technology bachelor degree.
Ken Styron, DBA, who is the president of Columbia Southern University, said of the partnership, “We are thrilled to work with Nashville State Community College to offer this opportunity to students who want to continue their education journey. As a university that was founded to provide accessible, affordable higher education for all, we feel this agreement will increase their options for success by building on their skills and talents.”
