Cleveland State University announces its new Career Innovations Fund

CSU’s Career Development and Exploration created the fund, and the idea behind it is that staff and faculty will create opportunities for students to get ahead.

Cleveland State University recently launched its Career Innovations Fund, a fund developed by the Office of Career Development and Exploration. Currently, students pay $4 per credit hour as a Student Career Fee, and that money goes into the Career Innovations Fund, which has approximately $100,000 within it. The Career Innovations Fund will make it possible for faculty and staff to help students get off on the right foot by introducing them to opportunities like workshops and experiential learning opportunities.

According to an article on Cleveland State University’s website, Brittany Wampler, who is the director of the Office of Career Development and Exploration, was quoted as saying of the Career Innovations Fund, “I feel passionately that we have created the best team of professionals to support our mission and vision, but also know that many people are invested in the career success outcomes of our students beyond our small team; our faculty and staff across campus are our best allies. Creating this fund expands our reach and extends our diversity of thought beyond our team alone.”

Some examples of what the funding may be used for include covering the costs of online portfolio software as needed for students’ job hunts, helping theater students pay for headshots, taking students on employer site visits, and supporting field trips.

Dr. Tachelle Banks, who is the new Vice President for Student Belonging and Success, challenged the Office of Career Development and Exploration to create tangible metrics to measure the office’s success. The Career Innovations Fund is Wampler’s answer.

“In creating the goals specifically for Career Development & Exploration, we wanted to set a goal to execute the spending for the Career Fee dollars in a more focused way. If we view the team of people that are impacting career development with a wider lens, the campus – administration, faculty, and staff – is all in it together. Collectively, we can do so much more together,” said Wampler.
