New pathway allows students to earn simultaneous engineering degrees from Bluffton University and The Ohio State University at Lima

Students will have access to tools and resources from both universities and will graduate with two engineering-focused degrees.

A new partnership has been announced between Bluffton University and The Ohio State University at Lima that will give engineering students double the resources and double the degrees. Students can now earn both a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Engineering Science from Bluffton University and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from Ohio State at Lima.

According to an article on Bluffton University’s website, Dr. Jane Wood, who serves as the president of Bluffton University, discussed the new pathway option, saying, “Bluffton University is excited to join in partnership with The Ohio State University Lima campus to offer more students the opportunity to study engineering. Beginning in the fall of 2024, Bluffton University students will be able to live four years on Bluffton’s campus and complete a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree in Lima. Collaboration amongst higher education institutions is essential and increases opportunities for future employment needs in the state of Ohio.”

Dr. Margaret Young, who is the interim dean and director at The Ohio State University at Lima, commented, as well, saying, “We are pleased to join in a new partnership with Bluffton University. Collaborating as a public and private university, to better meet local workforce needs, supports our entire region. It is always exciting to create innovative pathways to student success.”

Drs. Wood and Young came together representing their respective universities to sign the partnership agreement while at Ohio State Lima Engineering Education and Manufacturing Center. The agreement allows students to take roughly half of their classes on each campus, utilize the resources of both universities, and graduate in four years with two engineering degrees.

The new pathway will be available for incoming freshmen in the Fall 2024 semester.
