The Summer Startup program is free for high school students and intends to help students become empowered to be the next generation of successful Kentucky entrepreneurs.
Thomas More University's Zembrodt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will be the site of this year’s Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Summer Startup program. The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Summer Startup program invites high schoolers to a three-week residential campus experience that gives them the opportunity to learn from successful entrepreneurs, hone their communication skills, and create business plans and pitches.
According to an article on Thomas More University’s website, Joseph L. Chillo, LP.D, who is the president of the university, was quoted as saying of this opportunity, “This collaboration represents an extraordinary opportunity for Thomas More to support the engagement of future entrepreneurs and innovators. By hosting this program, we are not only fostering innovation and entrepreneurship but also providing a platform for young minds to flourish and make a lasting impact on the world. Together, we are igniting a spark of creativity that will shape the future of business in the Commonwealth.”
During the Summer Startup program, the high school participants will be exposed to the expertise of Kentucky business owners and entrepreneurs, as well as the skills needed to follow in their footsteps. The participants will spend time developing their own business plans and pitches for the final event of the program: a live-streamed pitch competition. Completing the Summer Startup program opens up a new avenue toward a college education for these students, as many scholarships are available to those who have participated in the program.
Anne Jewell, who is the president and CEO of Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs, commented about Thomas More University and the University of Kentucky hosting the Summer Startup program, saying, “GSE couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with these two fantastic universities for our Summer Startup program. Both have demonstrated their deep commitment to and passion for developing Kentucky’s current and future entrepreneurs. We can’t wait for our students to experience the exceptional opportunities and environments at Thomas More and U.K.”
The program coming to Thomas More University is largely due to the work of Jeni Al Bahrani, who is the director of the Zembrodt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She was quoted as saying, “I am excited for Thomas More University to partner with GSE, marking a new era for entrepreneurship education in the Commonwealth. GSE has developed a strong reputation for entrepreneurial education, and as the innovation destination of the region, our collaboration will empower the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.”
