More than 150 students presented their research to panels of faculty and the public.
On December 8, Indiana University Southeast's campus played host to the 2023 Indiana University Undergraduate Research Conference. The presented research covered topics ranging from elementary education and psychology to biology and biomedical engineering.
According to an article on Indiana University Southeast’s website, Dr. Sue Sciame-Giesecke, who is the Vice President for Regional Campuses and Online Education, said that opportunities like this one are invaluable for students: “It actually shows an employer the skill set a student has, not just that they can talk about it, but they can actually demonstrate it.”
The judging panel selected seven oral presentation winners and eight poster presentation winners who represented various Indiana University campuses.
Research opportunities like this one often are not abundant for undergraduate students, and Indiana University Southeast faculty are glad their students were able to participate in the undergraduate research conference.
Chancellor Debbie Ford noted that these students are researching for great reasons: “They’re taking big ideas and big questions and studying them, bringing new perspectives and new knowledge.”
Dr. Aimee Adam, who is the Dean for Research, said, “Much of the research happening [at IU Southeast] is about issues that directly impact the local community, and our graduating students generally stay and continue to contribute to Southern Indiana and the Louisville metro areas.”
