Rhodes State College receives $50,000 Great Minds Fellowship Grant

The grant is intended to help strengthen the behavioral health workforce.

Rhodes State College has received $50,000 in grant money to support students who are pursuing careers in a behavioral health profession, including social work, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and more.

According to an article on Rhodes State College’s website, Dr. Patricia Hampshire, who is the Chair of Public Service and Assistant Professor of the Addictions, Mental Health, and Social Work Assistant program at Rhodes State, said of the grant, “The behavioral health field needs a compassionate and dedicated workforce and this grant is an opportunity to help those who want to dedicate themselves to a career of helping others.”

The Great Minds Fellowship is aimed at helping support students who will be graduating within the next two years as they pursue their careers in behavioral health. Students will take part in internships at one of the Ohio Community Behavioral Health Centers, and then must commit to being employed at one of the centers for one year, as well.

The program at the school that this grant will impact is experiencing a surge of student interest. Sixteen students are studying in the Addictions Certificate program. The grant will support 23 students.
