The Jackson State Community College library will showcase historical documents related to the school on October 4 during an event. From then the documents will be available to view from mid October until early November.
The library at Jackson State Community College has announced its plans to open its historical archives to members of the public today. This will be the first time the public will have access to this information in six years, since the school’s 50th anniversary celebration back in 2017.
As part of the showcase, the Jackson State Community College library has invited a group of people including friends of the college, former administrators, and alumni to provide historical context for photos, documents, and other content dating all the way back to when the school first opened.
In an article posted on Jackson State Community College’s website, Instruction Librarian Ruth Slagle was quoted about this event, saying, “We wanted to create a truly immersive experience for the public to enjoy. Jackson State has been a pillar of the community for over five decades, with many of our graduates continuing to work and live in West Tennessee. We wanted a way to invite them out, experience the rich history the college has to offer, and maybe even help point out some of the unknowns within our own collection.”
Those who visit the library can expect to see memorabilia such as club and athletics posters, old issues of the Jackson Stateman and The Pioneer, the JSCC Pageant photos and memorabilia, yearbooks, original scrapbooks, architectural history, and a lot more.
The showcase will run from 9 a.m. until noon today for those who want to interact with the collection and to provide their context. After today, the collection will be on display from the 16th until November 3.
The Jackson State Community College library is on the school’s campus at 2046 North Parkway, Jackson, Tennessee.
