Dr. Joseph Zacharias has been named to the Board of Trustees at Washington State Community College after being appointed by Ohio Governor Mike De Wine.
The Board of Trustees for Washington State Community College recently swore in its newest member, Dr. Joseph Zacharias, at its last board meeting.
Dr. Zacharias was appointed by Governor Mike De Wine, and is a hospitalist, participating in the roles of Vice President of Medical Staff and Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at the Memorial Health System. He has also served as a clinical professor at Marietta College in its physician assistant program, and has worked as a volunteer physician at the Washington Free Clinic.
In an article posted on Washington State Community College’s website, the school’s President Dr. Vicky Wood was quoted on Dr. Zacharias’ appointment, saying, “Memorial Health System is among our community’s largest employers and is one of Washington State’s strongest partners. Our collaboration includes experiential learning for our students, advisory board members who contribute to curriculum decisions, facility sharing, and partnering in a federal grant to support students, and more. It’s an honor to have Dr. Zacharias join us and I’m excited to have a trustee position filled by a representative from the hospital.”
Washington State Community College’s board has also recently appointed trustees from Memorial Health System: Ms. Bernita Watson who served from 2018 until 2021, and Dr. Bradley Carman who served from 2015 until 2021.
Dr. Zacharias earned a degree from Kasturba Medical College in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India before coming to Cincinnati, Ohio to perform his internal medicine residency at the Jewish Hospital. For the past 12 years, Dr. Zacharias has lived and worked in Marietta, Ohio. He has four children with his wife, Erin, named Isabel, Gabriella, Luke, and Noah.
Dr. Zacharias was also quoted in the article talking about his new appointment, saying, “I am deeply honored and excited for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Trustees at Washington State Community College. This institution’s dedication to academic excellence and community engagement aligns with my values, and I look forward to working with the board to advance its mission. Together, we will continue to champion educational growth and foster a bright future for our students and the community we serve.”
The Washington State Community College Board of Trustees is made up of electors who live either in Morgan or Washington counties. Currently, the board includes Susan Vessels, LeeAnn Johnson, Cinda Erickson, Randy Barengo, Bernie Anderson, Jodey L. Altier, Tyler WIlcox, and David Vandenberg. Wilcox serves as vice chair, while Vandenberg serves as chair.
Dr. Zacharias will serve this term on the board of trustees through February 2029.
