Murray State University announces new Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship endowment fund

In honor of a single mother who earned a BSN at Murray State University, the school and her family have created the Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship endowment fund to help other working parents achieve their dreams.

The new Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment has been announced at Murray State University. The scholarship fund was created thanks to gifts from friends and family of Manna with the goal of creating a memorial to her loving and caring spirit, as well as to help single parent students attending Murray State in achieving an education that will give them the necessary preparation for their dream careers that will also allow them to support their family.

Augusta Perdune Manna started her time at Murray State University back in the fall of 1984 to pursue a bachelor of science degree in Nursing. When she started her journey in higher education, she was a 35-year-old mother of two children. She made her way through Murray State’s BSN program while also raising and providing for her two sons. She finished her degree with honors a few years later in May of 1990, which greatly impressed and inspired her children. While working as a nurse, Manna specialized in psychiatric nursing and helping patients who were struggling with substance abuse.

When Manna passed away in 2011, her son Justin wanted to find a way to keep her legacy of a compassionate nurse, diligent student, and single mother alive. The generosity of her family made creating the Augusta Perdue Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment fund possible.

In an article posted on Murray State University’s website, Justin Manna was quoted about the scholarship, saying, “It is a privilege to support Murray State University's outstanding School of Nursing and Health Professions through this scholarship honoring my mom. I hope this scholarship helps single parents achieve their professional goals and improves the lives of their families for many years to come.”

Brandon Anderson, who serves as the director of development for the College of Education and Human Services and University Libraries at Murray State University, was also quoted as saying, “We are grateful to the Manna family for their generosity and are honored to play a small part in honoring Ms. Manna's legacy.”

The application period for students looking to be granted the Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment will begin in September 2024. The funds will become available for the first recipient of the scholarship in the fall of 2025.
