Four new academic deans appointed at Tiffin University

New academic deans have been appointed at Tiffin University in the Schools of Education and Extended Learning, General Education and Teaching Innovation, Creative and Media Arts, and Science, Technology, and Health.

Tiffin University has appointed four new people as academic deans: Dr. Mark Sabo, Bradley Rees, Dr. Stacey Floyd, and Dr. Daniel Clark.

Dr. Sabo, who was a professor of Forensic Science and Chemistry, has been appointed as the Founding Dean of the School of Science, Technology, and Health.

Rees, Vice Provost, who was the Dean of the Creative Arts Institute and assistant professor of Music, has been appointed the Founding Dean of the School of Creative and Media Arts.

Dr. Floyd was a professor of English and the Director of the Center for Faculty Support and Teaching Innovation, has been appointed as the Dean of General Education and Teaching Innovation.

Dr. Clark was an associate professor of Education and Vice Provost, and is now the Founding Dean of the School of Education and Extended Learning.

In an article posted on Tiffin University’s website, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Peter J. Holbrook was quoted about the appointees, saying, “I have had the distinct pleasure of working closely with these individuals through their roles as vice provosts and professors, and have every confidence they will lead these academic entities with professionalism and expertise. Their proven commitment to the modernization of academic practices will serve them well as they lead two of our newest schools in the proper directions.”

Dr. Sabo has worked at Tiffin University for nearly a decade. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in Chemistry from the University of South Florida. He then went on to earn his doctor of philosophy degree in Analytical Chemistry from Michigan State University. He has worked for 25 years in various educational leadership roles at several other institutions of higher learning.

He spoke about his new role, saying, “I have been blessed to be a professor and part of the Tiffin University family since 2014. In my new role as Dean, I am excited to begin work with students, faculty, staff and the administration to strengthen and expand Tiffin University’s commitment to STEM education. Together, we will make a difference in our students’ lives and enhance their skills for success and a fulfilling career in this 21st century.”

Mr. Rees has served at Tiffin University for almost three decades, and has both professional and academic experience in arts entrepreneurship, live sound engineering, studio production, pedagogy and arranging, vocal jazz performance, and choral conducting. He earned his master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado. He also holds a certificate of advanced graduate study in Music Education from Boston University.

Rees was quoted on his new position as saying, “I have always been impressed with the faculty I get to work with in our school. I am proud of the work we’ve already done together revamping our digital media degree program. With the addition of multiple professional tracks, particularly a new one in sports media, we’ll be able to attract students who can custom-design their studies to prepare them for multiple career paths in multimedia content creation.”

Dr. Floyd has spent over two decades in higher education, with the past five years being spent at Tiffin University. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education and English from the University of Kentucky. She also earned her doctor of philosophy degree in English from there, as well.

“As a long-term advocate for undergraduate education and meeting those students where they are, I look forward to supporting our talented general education faculty in implementing innovative pedagogies to reach our undergrads and give them a firm base for the rest of their education,” she said.

Dr. Clark joined the team at Tiffin University back in 2018 as Vice Provost for the Center of Online and Extended Learning. He has more than two decades of experience in higher education, with much of that time being focused on the areas of adult, online, and distance education. He has a master of science degree from Syracuse University in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation. He earned his doctor of philosophy degree in Adult Education from North Dakota State University.

He spoke of his new appointment, saying, “I am happy to accept this additional assignment as Dean of the new School of Education and Extended Learning. In my time at Tiffin, I have come to appreciate the advantages and opportunities we enjoy, and I am convinced that institutions like TU are in the best position to lead in this new era of innovation for higher education.”
