Dr. Gail Lis, DNP, ACNP named Dean of Nursing at Mercy College of Ohio

Mercy College of Ohio has named Dr. Gail Lis, DNP, ACNP as the new Dean of Nursing after she served as the interim dean in that position since January of 2023.

Mercy College of Ohio has recently announced a new Dean of Nursing in Dr. Gail Lis, DNP, ACNP BC. Dr. Lis has years of experience and expertise which she will bring to the position. She has served as the Interim Dean of Nursing since the beginning of the year, and was previously the Assistant Dean of Nursing at Mercy College since 2021.

Dr. Lis is a dedicated nursing educator with a strong background in curriculum and program development across all levels of education. She is passionate about teaching and using active and diverse learning strategies with her students. In addition to her administrative duties, she will continue to be an active clinician and will serve patients as an infectious disease nurse practitioner. 

In an article posted on Mercy College of Ohio’s website, Dr. Lis was quoted on the attainment of her new job, saying, "I'm humbled and excited to lead the nursing division and build on the rich history of nursing excellence at Mercy College. Mercy College is uniquely positioned to help address the shortage of nurses and I'm eager to be a part of bringing more people into the field."

Mercy College has many entry points for students who want to become nurses as well as several online opportunities for those already working as nurses who wish to advance their education. Dr. Lis plans to lead the nursing program with this in mind, noting that each of these pathways are important in their own way, and that students should feel encouraged to pursue their education through an associate degree or bachelor’s degree. Mercy College also provides an evening weekend associate degree program option, and an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program especially designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in another subject. Working nurses have online options like an RN to BSN completion program and a Master of Science in Nursing degree.

Before coming to Mercy College of Ohio, Dr. Lis worked for over two decades at Madonna University. While there, she served as the Associate Dean, Graduate Chair, and Nurse Practitioner Program Director for the College of Nursing. She has also instructed both undergraduate and graduate students. She lives in Novi, Michigan.
