Ivy Tech Community College and Lilly partner for new scholarship program

Students at Ivy Tech Community College pursuing pharmaceutical manufacturing and related industries have new opportunities thanks to a partnership between the school and the company Lilly.

A scholarship program that primarily supports students who have overcome socioeconomic barriers and first generation students who are pursuing credentials in quality, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or similar industries has been announced thanks to a partnership between Ivy Tech Community College and Lilly called the Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech.

The Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech program is set up to provide around 1,000 eligible Ivy Tech students or Lilly Scholars with the experiential learning opportunities and financial assistance needed for summer programs and work study programs. The program will also support Lilly Scholars with customized training and education at the Lilly Smart Manufacturing Lab, which is a world-class facility that will be built to support Ivy Tech Indianapolis with two-year manufacturing degree and manufacturing certification options.

In an article on Ivy Tech’s website, the President of the school, Dr. Sue Ellspermann, talked about the partnership, saying, “Today, we are taking our partnership with Lilly to the next level with the creation of Lilly Scholars at Ivy Tech. Lilly Scholars provides high school and adult students with a unique opportunity to leverage the world-class education at Ivy Tech with an exceptional employer partner in Lilly and put their education to work in high-wage, high-demand careers that contribute to the growth and prosperity of our state.”

The pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality industries are a large part of Indiana’s economy by driving innovation in areas like medical devices, vaccines, and biopharmaceuticals, and providing high paying jobs.

The executive vice president and president of Lilly Manufacturing Operations, Edgardo Hernandez, was also quoted on the partnership, saying, "Today's announcements demonstrate the strong collaboration between industry, academia and government in Indiana. Through our new academic commitment, we're looking to grow life sciences education in the state and foster a diverse pipeline of local talent to fill the new jobs created through our recent investments."
