Apex Clean Energy and Marion Technical College team up for Tymochtee Solar Scholarship Fund

Marion Technical College and Apex Clean Energy have partnered to create the Tymochtee Solar Scholarship Fund which will begin in mid-to-late 2025 and will have $75,000 in its coffers.

Marion Technical College and Apex Clean Energy have recently announced a new partnership aimed at educating and training a new generation of students to be clean energy workers by implementing the new Tymochtee Solar Scholarship Fund.

The partnership between the two institutions will allow the Marion Technical College Foundation to start a new scholarship program for students taking part in the school’s Electrical Engineering Technology - Alternative Energy degree program. The program is a full time, two year program that trains students in various fields in the renewable energy industry such as mechanical engineering and more. The program teaches participants the necessary electrical skills needed to maintain, operate, and install a range of alternative energy systems while also exposing them to the alternative energy business.

Apex Clean Energy will fund the Tymochtee Solar Scholarship Fund with $75,000. The money will become available 30 days after the commercial operations date of the project, which is expected to be in mid-to-late 2025.

In an article on Marion Technical College’s website, Gena Shelton, Public Engagement Manager at Apex Clean Energy, talked about the partnership, saying, “We are excited to launch this new partnership with Marion Tech to provide new clean energy career options to Wyandot County students. Tymochtee Solar will create hundreds of construction jobs and several long-term operations jobs for aspiring solar installers and technicians. Encouraging students to pursue these careers is key to meeting our mission of accelerating the shift to clean energy.”

The president of Marion Technical College, Dr. Ryan McCall, also weighed in, saying, “We are excited about the investment in our students to build the workforce of tomorrow. Engineering technology is in demand. We appreciate scholarships to lower barriers for students to get ahead.”

More information about the application process for these scholarships will be released to both prospective and current students when it becomes available. Students who have questions about the scholarship program or the alternative energy program should contact Admissions at Marion Technical College by email at enroll@mtc.edu or by phone at (749) 389-4636.
