Education professionals in Kentucky now have a multifaceted and affordable master's degree program available to them at Morehead State University. The program offers several areas of focus, and is online.
Professional educators now have a new and convenient program available to them to advance their careers thanks to Morehead State University. The Fall 2023 semester will see the beginning of the Ernst and Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education’s offering of a Master of Arts in Education.
The Master of Arts in Education program will work to help educators develop skills in teaching and leading in education settings for students in Pre-K through 12th grade, design quality learning experiences, and better contextualize education with the outside world. The Master of Arts in Education program will be online and will be beneficial for the skills of educators working in the elementary, middle, and secondary school settings.
There are multiple concentrations within the master of arts program, like gifted and talented, STEM, English, math, and several more. These concentrations serve to allow for educators to develop a depth of study based on their own professional interest. There is also the option for a dual credit teaching qualification in biology, English, and math. Students will also have the option to work with the program to design their own specialization.
The Masters of Art in Education program contains the following learning objectives, according to an article from Morehead State University: assessment of literacy and research, data literacy and research, professional dispositions and professional standards appropriate to their discipline, contextual factors like psychological, philosophical, historical, and social factors and applying all that information when making teaching decisions.
There are also some unique benefits to students in the Masters of Art in Education program, as well, such as affordable graduate tuition (students residing in Kentucky can take 600 level education classes at the undergraduate tuition rate of some $385 per credit hour), the ability to finish a 30-hour program in only 15-18 months, online courses during the fall, spring, and summer sessions, and classes intertwined with classroom practice.
Dr. Tim Simpson, who serves as the associate dean in the Volgenau College of Education was quoted in the aforementioned article on the combination of convenience, affordability, and the practice of embedding classwork in the classroom makes the program an attractive choice for educational professionals, while also benefiting Kentucky’s classrooms.
“This program will impact our region by enhancing the capacity of our teachers to educate better the next generation of leaders and citizens,” he said.
