North Central State College Scholarships for Success event raises $30,000 for new and existing scholarships

$30,000 was raised during a live and silent auction at the annual North Central State College Scholarships event. Two new scholarships, and winners of existing scholarships, were announced.

On March 2, the Crawford Success Center held its fifth annual “Scholarships for Success” giving event wherein it raised $30,000 in scholarships, thanks to both a silent and live auction. The Scholarships for Success event benefits North Central State College students from Crawford County. The students will be provided vital training and scholarships.

Nathan Harvey, who serves as the director of the Crawford Success Center, was quoted in an article from Crawford County Now about the event, saying, “This event was truly an investment in the future of Crawford County. The funds we raised will offer resources to help local students have opportunities for higher education and workforce development.”

Two new scholarships were announced by the North Central State College Foundation at the event.

The first scholarship was created by the Second Lady of the State of Ohio, Tina Husted. The new Husted Family Leadership Fund for Women scholarship will allow women from Crawford County financial assistance so that they can pursue higher education. The scholarship is supported thanks to a partnership with Cedar Fair Charities. Husted and the North Central State College Foundation, along with Cedar Fair, partnered up to release a landscape painting of the Cedar Point Skyline, which is titled “Cedar Sky.” The original painting and poster reproductions were sold at the event to help fund the scholarship, and more collaborations are planned to help the partnership grow. The first scholarship from the Husted Family Leadership Fund for Women will be awarded to a North Central State College Student in the coming fall semester.

Husted was quoted on the scholarship, saying, “I am excited about this scholarship fund. I am grateful I can use my talent of art to raise money for scholarships and help the students of Crawford County pursue their education.”

The other scholarship that was unveiled at the event was presented by Dave Bush, who is on the board of North Central State College, and a big supporter of the Crawford Success Center. He announced the scholarship in honor of his parents. The Donal J. and Josephine M. Bush Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to Crawford County students starting this coming August.

It was also announced that $500 scholarships would be awarded by the North Central State College Foundation to students coming from Crestline, Wynford, and Bucyrus high schools.

Pat and Janel Hord were announced as the 2023 recipients of the Scholarships for Success Leadership Award. The award is given out to inspiration leaders in the Crawford County Area. Pat and Janel have been inspiring enough to win the award by investing in the needs of the community while also expanding their family business. They have also been longtime supporters of the Crawford Success Center. The Hords’ donations to the Crawford Success Center have been instrumental in the support of local students who are pursuing higher education degrees.

The Hords are the owners of Hord Livestock and Family Farms, which employs more than 200 people from around Crawford. Currently, Hord Family Farms is in its fifth generation of family farming, with its sixth on the way.

Vice President for North Central State’s College Foundation and Development Chris Cooper spoke about the success of the event, saying, “This community should be very proud. With the support of several new scholarships, the Crawford County community will gain the resources it needs to ensure our students have the financial support to graduate with a degree or certificate.  Crawford County really shined at this annual event.”

This year’s Scholarships for Success event was supported by the sponsorships of several local organizations, such as auction partner Castle Auctions and Appraisals, Stanley Black & Decker, Park National Bank, Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, Mizick Miller, Dr. Joe and Susan Shadeed, Tom & Pam Holtshouse, FC Bank, Dave Bush, Avita Health System, ARK Realty, Lind Media, North Central Ohio Media Group, and OhioHealth.
