Dr. Scott E. Grasman named Dean of College of Engineering at Kettering College

After a six-month interim appointment, Dr. Scott E. Grassman has officially been named Kettering College’s Dean of the College of Engineering.

The new Dean of the College of Engineering at Kettering College was named in December 2022. After a six-month appointment as interim Dean, Dr. Scott E. Grasman was officially named Dean. Before his interim appointment, Dr. Grasman worked as Department Head and professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. 

In a release on the school’s website, Dr. Grasman was quoted on his response to his new appointment, saying, “I’m humbled to serve the Kettering community, and look forward to leading partnerships for student success.”

Dr. Grasman’s duties as Dean of the College of Engineering at Kettering University include overseeing the school's engineering programs. He will focus on creating new and exciting opportunities for Kettering students, while working to uphold the impressive legacy and national reputation of the College’s engineering programs. His main goal will be in service to Kettering students so that they can find a beneficial place in the rapidly changing engineering industries.

Previous to his time at Kettering College, Dr. Grasman spent six years working at Rochester Institute of Technology as a professor and Department Head of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Before that he spent a decade at Missouri University of Science and Technology in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.

Dr. Grasman attended the University of Michigan to earn his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Industrial and Operations Engineering.

He also regularly works as a consultant for industry partners, in addition to his work in academia. 

Dr. Grasman is highly experienced in alternative energy infrastructure modeling/simulation, production/logistics systems, and workforce planning. He has also been the principal investigator on many research projects on these topics. His research has looked into engineering education such as sustainability in the engineering curriculum, alternative energy graduate programs, need-based programs for transfer and dual degree students, and vehicle electrification.

This work has led him to being co- or sole author on more than 100 technical papers, which have received several best journal/conference paper awards and reviewer and editorial roles for many books and technical journals. Dr. Grasman has also earned many awards for service, research, and teaching.
