A Bachelor of Science in Coaching and Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Marketing have been approved by the Midway University Trustees, and will be available to students in the Fall 2023 semester.
The Trustees of Midway University have voted to approve two new majors and a new minor for the 2023-24 academic year. The new degrees on offer are a Bachelor of Science in Sport Marketing and a Bachelor of Science in Coaching and Leadership.
In a press release, Dean of the School of Business, Equine and Sport Studies at Midway University Dr. Mark Gill explained the reasoning behind the two new majors, saying, “Based on student interest and the growth of our current Sport Management program, our faculty have developed these two new majors. Sport Marketing will combine curriculum elements of both Sport Management and Marketing Communications allowing students to focus on the many aspects of marketing specific to the sports industry. The Coaching and Sport Leadership degree program is for those students who want to be much more hands-on in the sports industry as a coach or leader of an athletic organization. Both degree programs will be available to our traditional undergraduate students on campus and for our online students.”
The Trustees also approved a proposed minor in Music. The general music minor will allow students to choose one of three tracks: Music Education, Music Therapy, or Performance. Dr. Ellen Bloomfield, Interim Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, spoke on the new minor, saying, “We believe this minor will be of interest to students who are participating in the Midway Chorale program and to students in other program areas such as psychology and teacher education.”
