Bowling Green State is holding two graduation ceremonies on Friday and Saturday. Bowling Green alumni and former state senator Bruce Johnson will be giving the keynote at both ceremonies.
On Friday, December 9 at 7 pm, and at 10 am on Saturday, Bowling Green State University will hold its in-person graduation event to honor the class of 2022. The event will be held in the Stroh Center on campus.
The total number of graduating students this Fall 2022 semester is 1,038, 41 of whom will be earning their associate degrees, with 665 earning bachelor degrees. More than 300 students will be receiving master’s degrees, and 20 will be getting their doctoral degrees.
Bruce Johnson, who graduated from Bowling Green in 1982, will be the keynote speaker at both ceremonies. Johnson is the President and CEO of the Inter-University Council of Ohio, an organization of 14 higher education institutions that works together to ensure cooperation and quality of universities in Ohio. He has held his position for 16 years. He is responsible for the organization and development of strategic programs and oversees their implementation.
Previously, Johnson served as the lieutenant governor of Ohio and the director of the Ohio Department of Development. While serving in these positions, Ohio was commended for leading the nation in new and expanded education facilities twice. Previous to these positions, Johnson was an Ohio state senator where he was president pro tempore, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
Johnson received his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in business administration, before going to get his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School. In 1985, he was admitted to the Ohio State Bar Association.
While tickets are still available, those who cannot attend can view the ceremonies on Facebook, and on the school’s website.
