New Culinary Studies Institute announced for Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak Campus
Oakland Community College is breaking ground on a new three-story addition to its Royal Oak Campus that will house the school’s culinary program.
A new 78,000 square foot addition to Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak Campus will house the school’s new Culinary Studies Institute, set to open September of 2025.
The three-story addition, estimated to cost $74 million, will have five teaching kitchens, two demonstration kitchens, and three classrooms, which will provide students with a state-of-the-art culinary learning facility in southeast Michigan. The official groundbreaking is set for Wednesday, November 16.
The new addition will have a first floor design that will be flexible so as to allow pop up culinary retail events and food service, a sustainable design which should allow for future adaptations to shifting needs and culinary trends. It’s an integration of instructional technology so that teaching and learning can be done with remote access to diverse kitchens from all over the world, as well as space for conference and culinary competitions. There will also be a 2,600 square foot restaurant on the third floor with a 360 degree view of downtown Royal Oak. The restaurant will allow for community dining and act as a teaching space for students to gain real-world culinary and serving experience.
