Students at the University of Kentucky can now place grocery pickup orders with Kroger to be picked up on campus.
A Kroger grocery pickup location on the University of Kentucky campus has been added for students.
According to a press release, students interested in taking advantage of this new convenient option can make an account on Kroger’s website, select their groceries, and set their preferred pickup location to the Kroger Field Orange Lot. Kroger was granted the naming rights to the Kentucky Wildcats football stadium in 2017. There are pickup windows for this location Mondays from 4-8 p.m, Thursdays from 4-8 p.m., Fridays from 5-7 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Several other stores have been experimenting with grocery pickup locations in the past decade, according to a Retail Wire article. Several standalone grocery pickup locations have been instituted by Walmart, Peapod, and Carrefour, though most were short lived.
Recently, Target has experimented with opening some small stores close to college campuses along with its expansion into more urban markets.
Amazon has also worked on this satellite method since 2017 when it opened five of what it called “Instant Pickup” stores in college communities. These Instant Pickup locations contained essentials for college students like phone chargers, drinks, and snacks that students could order ahead of time and pick up later in addition to items one might more normally order from Amazon. The pilot program only lasted a year.
Walmart has also opened several similar locations to Amazon’s pilot program on college campuses, but now only maintains a location on the University of Arizona.
For now, University of Kentucky students can look forward to having an on-campus option of getting a full grocery order thanks to the new Kroger location.
