Union Health named 2022 Outstanding Alumni Employer by Ivy Tech

Recently, Ivy Tech Community College honored Union Health with its yearly Outstanding Alumni Employer Award. The award was created by the Ivy Tech Alumni Council and is used to celebrate employers in the area who work well with Ivy Tech.

Nick Givens is the chair of the Alumni Council and was the presenter of the award. He was quoted by the Tribune-Star on the award, saying, “The Outstanding Alumni Employer Award recognizes companies in West Central Indiana that value the continued education and growth of their employees, serve as a top career prospect for Ivy Tech graduates, and are committed to improving the community.”

Part of Union Health’s long-term partnership with Ivy Tech is the Achieve Your Degree agreement it has with the school. Union Health offers this agreement to its employees which provides tuition reimbursement for employees who take classes at Ivy Tech. 

Union Health has also gifted money to Ivy Tech to help with the expansion and renovation of various healthcare programs at the school with the intention of working to close the employment gap that is being experienced in the healthcare industry. Nearly one-fifth of all Union Health employees are Ivy Tech graduates, largely due to programs like those listed above.

Chief Executive Officer for Union Health Steve Holman was there to accept the award, saying, “We are honored to receive this award, and we are proud to employ so many Ivy Tech graduates. There is a need in West Central Indiana and throughout the state for a highly skilled workforce in the healthcare industry.”

He went on to praise Union Health’s partnership with Ivy Tech: “Our partnership with Ivy Tech ensures the continued education of our current staff and provides the students who are working toward their careers to experience a hands-on education that mirrors the industry environment.”

Ivy Tech’s Chancellor Lea Anne Crooks was also in attendance and had positive words to say: “Union Health is the epitome of what it means to be a corporate partner. Their partnership with Ivy Tech not only supports the growth and development of their current and future staff but also supports the well-being and economic success of our communities.”
 
The award and the event started in 2019 with the first recipient being Terre Haute Savings Bank. The Alumni Council at Ivy Tech is in charge of the award and is made up of representatives from all seven of Ivy Tech’s schools.
The members of the Alumni Council work as advocates for the students and the school and help with alumni engagement activities. 

The Outstanding Alumni Employer Award is awarded at the Chancellor’s Club dinner, an event that happens every year for the purpose of celebrating Ivy Tech’s most loyal and generous benefactors.

The selection process of the award is through a nomination process from which the Alumni Council considers and selects the company that fits the award criteria the best.
