This latest gift brings the university to 97% of its final goal for the funding of the Knox Regional Health Science Center.
Roane State Community College has received a gift from local physicians and married couple, Dr. Bhavna Vora and Dr. Amit Vora. The gift of $125,000 is for the newly opened Knox Regional Health Science Center, a 130,000-square-foot facility that houses health science programs from Roane State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Knoxville. This gift brings the university to 97% of its final funding goal for the facility.
According to an article on Roane State Community College’s website, college president Dr. Chris Whaley was quoted as saying of the new Knox Regional Health Science Education Center, “Everyone at Roane State is working to fulfill our mission of making higher education accessible to all, particularly in the area of health sciences. Part of that mission is ensuring we educate the next generation of healthcare professionals, teaching them patient-centered care and life-saving skills that can transform communities. The regional impact of this new campus is just the beginning.”
Dr. Bhavna Vora is a family practice physician who serves on the board of Summit Medical Group and of the Roane State Foundation. Her husband, Dr. Amit Vora, is an endocrinologist and is the Chief of Endocrinology and Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine.
Dr. Bhavna Vora said of their contribution, “Education is the reason we are where we are today. Coming from humble backgrounds, it opened doors that allowed us to become physicians and serve our communities. That is why supporting healthcare education by our monetary contribution matters deeply to us. When you educate one person, you uplift an entire family and strengthen the community around them.”
With the recent opening of the Knox Regional Health Science Education Center, Roane State Community College and TCAT Knoxville are both beginning to expand their healthcare program and course offerings.
