The annual spring meeting of the Northeast State Community College Foundation featured the announcement of nine new scholarships, including endowments, emergency fund scholarships, and voucher programs. The board also gained six new members.

Nine new scholarship opportunities are available to students at Northeast State Community College, as announced by the Northeast State Foundation at a recent meeting on May 8. The opportunities for financial assistance include four new endowment scholarships, along with four scholarships and technology vouchers sponsored by various departments at the college, and the Eula Fields Book Scholarship, reserved for nursing students. Along with the news of the scholarships, the Foundation announced the addition of six new members to the board.

The college announced the news in a press release, which provided details on eligibility requirements for the endowment scholarships established. The Patricia A. Chandler Endowed Scholarship requires a 2.75 GPA and favors military service members, veterans, and their dependents. The Garland Farms Endowed Scholarship is reserved for students majoring in elementary education with a preference given to residents of Washington County. The Bill Rowell Memorial Endowed Scholarship seeks to help students in a pre-engineering major with a minimum 2.0 GPA, with preference given to female students. Finally, the Allana Rose Hamilton Memorial Endowed Scholarship is open to science majors with at least a 2.75 GPA.

In addition to the endowment programs, new opportunities have been created by the Association of Computing Machinery, which include a voucher program to help computer science students with expenses and exam fees, as well as two scholarships. A Certified Professional Coder Examination Scholarship will cover the costs of a certification exam for an Administrative Professional Technology Program (Medical Office concentration) student with at least a 3.0 GPA, sponsored by the department. The Eula Fields Book scholarship was also established, funded by Lottie Ryans (chair of The Foundation board and daughter of Eula Fields), which supports a student in a nursing or pre-nursing major.

The Northeast State Foundation is part of the college's Advancement office. Megan Almaroad, director of Advancement Operations at Northeast State spoke about the foundation's achievements of the past year. Almaroad said, "It has been a very productive year for the Foundation despite challenges presented by COVID-19. We are deeply appreciative of the support provided by our board members, the College, and the community."

The scholarship announcements were accompanied by the welcoming of six new Northeast State Foundation board members. The new members represent a variety of industries within the community, including banking, legal firms, investment firms, and religious leaders.
