The partnership will allow medical students at WVU Medicine Eastern Regional Campus to benefit from the research expertise of Shepherd University faculty in the Shepherd University Center of Excellence for Photobiomodulation.
Shepherd University and WVU Medicine Eastern Regional Campus have formed a partnership to advance and innovate research and clinical opportunities in Photobiomodulation through Shepherd University’s Center of Excellence for Photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation is a therapy that uses light to treat various conditions and disorders.
According to an article on Shepherd University’s website, Mary J.C. Hendrix, Ph.D, the president of Shepherd University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “This partnership brings together Shepherd University’s research leadership in PBM with WVU Medicine’s clinical excellence to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. It exemplifies our shared commitment to advancing therapies that improve health outcomes in West Virginia and beyond.”
Photobiomodulation can help treat wounds, musculoskeletal disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, neurodivergent presentations, and concussions.
The partnership between the two institutions will lead to the combination of clinical and research expertise that will allow for further opportunities in research, the ability to have hands-on experiences with Photobiomodulation devices, mentorship, data analysis, and publication opportunities.
Dr. Jennifer Flora, who serves as the Director of the Center of Excellence for Photobiomodulation, said, “By integrating clinical training with cutting-edge research, we are preparing medical and nursing students to lead in fields where innovation meets compassionate care. WVU Medicine’s involvement ensures PBM continues to expand as a valuable tool in both research and practice.”
