Washtenaw Community College introduces five new programs for Fall 2025 semester

The five new programs are carefully designed to meet the needs of the local workforce.

Washtenaw Community College is beginning the Fall 2025 semester with five new programs available for students who wish to enter into the workforce with the skills necessary for an in-demand career. The new programs can be started at any of the four Fall 2025 program start dates: August 25, September 17, October 1, or October 18.

An article on Washtenaw Community College’s website explains the five new programs and how they align with the current needs of the local workforce.

The first new program awards an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology. This program helps students earn two credentials throughout their time at WCC, in addition to their associate degree, all of which will help students become qualified to work in the construction industry: Construction Technology I Certificate and Construction Technology II Advanced Certificate. The 60-credit program is full of hands-on opportunities for students to learn framing, masonry, the interpretation of building codes, and more. After completing the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Michigan State Builder's License Exam.

Another new program, the Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technology program, is also a 60-credit program that prepares students for work in industrial electronics and semiconductor and battery manufacturing. The program has two concentrations, each with their own embedded certificates to prepare students for the workforce. The Industrial Electronics Concentration gives students the opportunity to earn the Industrial Electronics Technology certificate. The Semiconductor & Battery Manufacturing Concentration includes two embedded certificates: Semiconductor & Battery Manufacturing and Robotics Technician certificates. In addition to the curriculum providing students with fundamental knowledge for the field, there are also transfer options for students who wish to pursue a further degree with a partner institution.

The Semiconductor & Battery Manufacturing – Advanced Certificate program is a standalone certificate program which is currently awaiting financial aid approval, though students may still enroll in the program. It is an 18-credit program that prepares students to work in the semiconductor and battery industries. Among the skills students will learn are battery assembly, testing and quality control, and semiconductor fabrication.

The Advanced Auto Body Repair – Advanced Certificate program is designed for students who have already completed the foundational Advanced Auto Body Repair Certificate program. This program is a 12-credit standalone that provides students with more in-depth knowledge and skills to build upon what was learned in the previous course. Students may choose to take the Transportation Technologies associate degree program, as this certificate is part of that program.

The last new program for the Fall 2025 semester is the Education Paraprofessional – Certificate program. The program is still awaiting approval for financial aid eligibility, but students are still allowed and encouraged to enroll. Students who pursue this certificate will become eligible for work as a paraprofessional in PK-12 classrooms or in childcare. Students may wish to pursue the Elementary Education Transfer Associate in Applied Science, as the 16-17 credits earned with this certificate may be applied to the associate degree.

In addition to these new programs, the college has also announced that for the Fall 2025 semester, in-state tuition has been frozen at $99 per credit hour, landing the college among the cheapest in the state of Michigan.
