Vincennes University partners with Walmart for Walmart’s Associate to Technician program

The program that provides Walmart associates with technical training is being expanded to Vincennes, Indiana and Jacksonville, Florida after a successful pilot in Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas.

Vincennes University is joining Walmart’s Associate to Technician program to help Walmart’s associate employees gain valuable hands-on knowledge and skills to move up to a technician employee position. Vincennes University will provide Walmart associates with the hands-on technical training they need to advance their Walmart careers.

According to an article on Vincennes University’s website, David Tucker, the university’s Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Services, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “This collaboration perfectly reflects Vincennes University’s commitment to workforce-driven education that meets the needs of today’s employers. We are proud to help Walmart associates build skills that lead to meaningful, well-paying careers. This is more than training, it’s a life-changing pathway to success. We are honored to support associates on their journey to grow and thrive.”

The Associate to Technician program trains participating Walmart employees in skills like electrical and mechanical fundamentals, pneumatics, refrigeration, and troubleshooting, all of which are skills associates will need to move up into technician positions within the company. The program uses a 70% hands-on training to 30% classroom learning ratio to help employees bolster their value to the company.

In the pilot of the program in Dallas-Fort Worth, all 108 of the participating employees were able to enter into technician roles within the company, a position which has the potential to pay up to $32 an hour.

The goal of the program, following the successful pilot, is to train 4,000 associates across the country to prepare for technician roles by the year 2030.
