The five-year grant comes from the US Department of Education and is in the amount of $1.36 million.
Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College has received a five-year, $1.36 million grant through the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. The funding will support the school’s student support services program, which is completely federally funded.
According to an article on Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. T. Chris George, who has been the Director of SKYCTC TRIO Programs since 2020, was quoted as saying, “The Student Support Services program is a vital part of our institutional commitment to student success. This funding will allow us to continue providing targeted support to students who may face academic and socioeconomic barriers on their journey toward degree completion.”
The SKYCTC TRIO program provides services and programming to students who come from low-income backgrounds, have disabilities, or are first-generation college students as a way to remove barriers to a college education and increase student academic success. The types of services the program offers include academic advising, tutoring, career exploration, financial aid assistance, transfer planning, and cultural enrichment opportunities.
With this funding, the program can support 140 students annually to receive these services.
