The grant will support the college’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program for the next five years.
Ashland Community and Technical College has received a grant from the US Department of Education in the amount of $1,762,655. The grant will support the college’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program for the next five years, with $325,531 allocated annually from September 2025 to August 2030. The SSS program provides academic support and personal support services for students who come from low-income backgrounds or those who are first-generation college students.
According to an article on Ashland Community and Technical College’s website, Megan Horne, who serves as the college’s Director of Program Facilitation, Student Support Services/TRIO, and Transfer Initiatives, was quoted as saying of the funding, “We are extremely proud of the success of our program and the symbiotic relationship we have with our college faculty, staff, and leadership. We have a tremendous amount of resources, including additional funding and facilities, dedicated to our SSS program so that we can do even more than our grant funding can afford and impact as many students as possible. We are truly blessed to receive the continued support that we do at ACTC and we look forward to the next five years.”
The college’s SSS program impacts about 80% of the student population, who are first-generation college students, from low-income backgrounds, or who have a disability. Through the SSS, students have access to tutoring, academic advising, transfer assistance, career counseling, leadership development, mentoring, and stress management workshops. The resources are all accessible both in person and online, allowing for maximum accessibility for all students.
The SSS program has been active on campus at Ashland Community and Technical College for more than 50 years.
