The two universities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will lead to various transfer pathways and collaborative efforts.
Walsh University and Xavier University of Louisiana have formed a partnership via the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that seeks to advance Catholic higher education. Xavier University of Louisiana is the country’s only Catholic historically Black college and university and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Now that the MOU has been signed, the universities will be working together to outline the specific collaborations and opportunities that will arise via the partnership.
According to an article on Walsh University’s website, Dr. Mike Dunphy, who serves as Walsh University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “By joining forces with Xavier University of Louisiana, we are creating a model for how Catholic institutions can collaborate, share expertise, and help each other thrive. This partnership will directly benefit our students and faculty, and ultimately the communities we serve.”
While the specifics of the MOU are not settled as of yet, the types of initiatives and collaborations the two institutions hope to establish include graduate pathways that will make it simpler for Xavier University of Louisiana students to enter into Walsh University’s Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Exercise Physiology graduate programs; direct admission into Walsh University's MBA program for Xavier students; cross enrollment opportunities for specific programs; direct admission into Xavier University of Louisiana’s School of Pharmacy; and faculty collaboration.
Walsh University’s Office of Academic Affairs is currently working toward its goal of forging partnerships with Catholic institutions across the country and across the globe as a means of empowering students and faculty to promote excellence in Catholic education. In addition to Xavier University of Louisiana, Walsh University has recently crafted partnerships with Newman Guide universities, Donnelly College, the Catholic University of Erbil in Iraq, and Australian Catholic University.
Xavier University of Louisiana’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Marguerite Giguette, said of the partnership, “We are excited to collaborate with Walsh University in this shared effort to expand access and promote academic excellence within Catholic higher education. Our institutions are united by a deep commitment to mission, service, and student success.”
