The WVU Guarantee program will cover tuition costs and applicable fees for students who meet financial eligibility requirements.
The West Virginia University System, which includes Potomac State College of West Virginia University and West Virginia University Institute of Technology, has launched a new program to make earning a college education more attainable and accessible. The WVU Guarantee is a last-dollar-in program that will financially cover whatever costs of attending the university that are not already covered by other sources for students who meet the financial eligibility requirements.
According to an article on Potomac State College of West Virginia University’s website, Steve Hahn, who serves as the interim vice president for Enrollment Management, was quoted as saying of the launch of the program, “By presenting greater accessibility and affordability to any West Virginian with aspirations to pursue higher education, we hope to take price considerations out of the decision for even more students to attend and complete college.”
The eligibility requirements for WVU Guarantee are that the student must be a West Virginia resident, they must not have already earned a bachelor degree or higher degree, they must have a Family Adjusted Gross Income below $65,000, and they must complete the FAFSA each year. After completing the FAFSA, students will be evaluated for the WVU Guarantee automatically and will not have to fill out any additional applications. If a student’s Family Adjusted Gross Income should rise above the $65,000 threshold, students will still be eligible to receive the WVU Guarantee, provided they meet all other renewal requirements.
Vice Provost Mark Gavin noted, “WVU Guarantee is a critical investment in our access mission and the development of the next generation of West Virginia’s leaders, field experts, researchers and entrepreneurs. In doing so, we are guaranteeing access to extraordinary, challenging, life-changing experiences for our students — whether they’re choosing WVU for the first time or returning home.”
In order to qualify for the WVU Guarantee for the Fall 2025 semester, students must complete their FAFSA by August 1, 2025.
