Tennessee State University to construct two new College of Agriculture buildings

Funding for the project comes via federal and state sources and the total cost of the project is $63 million.

Tennessee State University will be constructing two new buildings for its College of Agriculture in the near future, thanks to federal and state funding totalling $63 million coming in for the project. The Tennessee State Building Commission has recently approved the design phase of the buildings, which are planned to be ready for use by August 2026.

According to an article on Tennessee State University’s website, the university’s interim president Dwayne Tucker commented on the news of the Tennessee State Building Commission’s approval, saying, “I am excited, on my first day, to see two new buildings approved for the University by the State Building Commission. These buildings symbolize the future growth of the University in spite of our current fiscal situation. Today’s actions also demonstrate the State government’s continued trust in TSU and ongoing support of our future. It also marks the beginning of our journey to enhance educational offerings and research capabilities with these state-of-the-art buildings.

The two new buildings are an Environmental Science building and a Food and Animal Science building, which will, combined, be around 110,000 square feet and will be the largest buildings on Tennessee State University’s campus. Inside, the buildings will house classrooms, offices, research labs, lecture halls, collaborative work areas, and support facilities.

Dr. Chandra Reddy, who serves as the dean of the College of Agriculture, said, “This is a great opportunity for TSU and our students. From a teaching perspective, we will have the most modern teaching labs there. Agriculture is a very skill-based profession, not just a theoretical one, so the teaching labs will help us to provide experiential learning for students. Research wise these buildings will accommodate One Health Center, Precision Agriculture Center, Soil Health Center, and a Water Management Center.”
