The collaboration between Nashville State Community College, the Northern Middle Tennessee Workforce Board, and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development has resulted in a new streamlined workforce center to replace the current American Job Center.
Nashville State Community College’s Center for Workforce Development & Continuing Education, the Northern Middle Tennessee Workforce Board, and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) have joined forces to develop a new American Job Center at Nashville State Community College to replace the current center.
According to an article on Nashville State Community College’s website, Dr. Shanna L. Jackson, the school’s president, was quoted as saying of the reason behind the transition to a new American Job Center, “The goal is to enhance efficiency and ease of access for community members seeking training, job-seeking skills, career counseling, and continued education.”
The American Job Center was located in the Metro Center area of Nashville until December 13 when it closed its doors. On December 16, it reopened on Nashville State Community College’s East Davidson campus. Additionally, staff and operations of Nashville State Community College’s Center for Workforce Development & Continuing Education will be relocating to the East Davidson campus to join forces with the American Job Center.
The American Job Center provides free services to help individuals connect with job opportunities in the area, including job training programs, job placement assistance, and financial assistance to pay for job training programs.
Nashville State Community College’s Center for Workforce Development & Continuing Education provides adult education programs, professional development opportunities, and workshops.
TDLWD Commissioner Deniece Thomas said, “We need to be in locations where it’s easy for our customers to reach us. Combining the services offered at the AJC with Nashville State’s comprehensive program at its Workforce Center can be a model for the state.”
