Siena Heights University has been working in partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections since 2022. The grant from the State of Michigan will allow for the expansion of the partnership.
Siena Heights University has received a $250,000 grant from the State of Michigan to expand its partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections to continue providing education to incarcerated individuals. The partnership underscores the university’s commitment to providing accessible education for everyone.
According to an article on Siena Heights University’s website, Dr. Douglas Palmer, the university’s president, shared his gratitude for the grant and enthusiasm for the partnership. Siena Heights University has been involved with the Michigan Department of Corrections since 2022. The Rising Education Program is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Corrections and Jackson College, and Siena Heights University is involved in the Rising Education Program by way of providing incarcerated individuals with an education in business administration and helping them earn their bachelor degrees.
The grant from the State of Michigan will allow Siena Heights University to expand its footprint within the program and begin providing education to individuals incarcerated within Cotton Correctional Facility and Cooper Street Correctional Facility.
