The five-year $2.2 million Title III Part A Strengthening Institutions grant is the largest grant UC Blue Ash has ever received.
University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College has received a five-year, $2.2 million grant from the US Department of Education via its Title III Part A Strengthening Institutions initiative. The grant will give the school the opportunity to make enhancements and improvements to its programs that will lead students into in-demand careers like allied health, career services, information technology, and nursing.
According to an article on University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College’s website, Dean Robin Lightner, PhD, was quoted as saying, “Securing this grant is a huge development for our students and our college. It allows us to enhance the technology, education and support we provide for our students while also adding new faculty and staff. As we share the positive results we generate through this grant, it certainly improves our chances of being awarded additional federal grants to support educational opportunities at our college.”
The grant proposal University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College submitted laid out the six main initiatives it plans to accomplish with the funding, all of which will increase retention rates, graduation rates, and student success. These initiatives include hiring new staff for career services, new instructors for biology and information technology, and a new grant administrator; purchasing new nursing simulation lab equipment; purchasing equipment for the medical assisting and radiologic technology programs; purchasing a van for field trips and other outings, and purchasing access to the NCLEX preparation course for students pursuing certification.
According to the US Department of Education’s website, the Title III Part A Strengthening Institutions grant is intended to help eligible Institutions of Higher Education to “become self-sufficient and expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of eligible institutions.” Almost half of UC Blue Ash’s student population is made up of first-generation students and is one of the most diverse colleges within the University of Cincinnati.
