The agreement, signed on November 2, 2024, will provide admittance to Central Michigan University for eligible Delta College students. The agreement also helps to maximize credit transferring to save students time and money.
Central Michigan University and Delta College partnered for an agreement that will make it easier for students to transfer from Delta College to Central Michigan University in pursuit of a four-year degree, saving students time and money as they continue their education. The agreement simplifies the transfer process and maximizes the transfer of credits from Delta College to Central Michigan University.
According to an article on Central Michigan University’s website, Neil MacKinnon, the president of Central Michigan University, was quoted as saying of the collaborative effort to streamline student transfers, “This agreement aims to simplify the transfer process, making it easier for Delta College students to pursue a bachelor’s degree at CMU. We are excited for the opportunity to welcome and serve more students from Delta College and to meet the growing need for an educated workforce in Michigan.” He added, “Collaborating on transfer guides enables students to maximize credit transfer, reduce redundant coursework and achieve their degrees with fewer total credit hours. Whether they are traditional students coming to campus or adult learners taking classes online, this agreement will improve the experience for all students, helping them reach their goals more efficiently and affordably.”
The agreement, which was signed on November 4, 2024, states that there are two ways for Delta College students to be eligible to transfer to Central Michigan University. In one path, a student must have completed 24 credits at Delta College while maintaining a 2.5 or higher grade point average. The other way to be eligible is to earn an associate degree at Delta College while maintaining a 2.0 GPA.
Central Michigan University is already one of the top five transfer universities for Delta College, according to Michael Gavin, the president of Delta College. Gavin is quoted as saying, “We can make a huge difference for students who have historically been underserved by higher education.” He added, “This is one step in the right direction, and, as chair of the Michigan Community College Association’s Student Success Committee, I hope it is the first of many like it.”
Delta College and Central Michigan University are both members of Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and both follow the Michigan Transfer Agreement as laid out by Michigan Transfer Network. Part of the new agreement ensures that as many credits as possible will transfer with the student in order to minimize stress and cost.
MacKinnon said, “Collaborating on transfer guides enables students to maximize credit transfer, reduce redundant coursework and achieve their degrees with fewer total credit hours. Whether they are traditional students coming to campus or adult learners taking classes online, this agreement will improve the experience for all students, helping them reach their goals more efficiently and affordably.”
