Oakland Community College and University of Detroit Mercy team up for nursing completion program

The accelerated ASN to BSN program will give students the opportunity to earn their degree in 12 months while staying in Oakland County.

Oakland Community College and the University of Detroit Mercy have come together to offer a unique 12-month nursing program to help nurses with associate degrees earn their bachelor degrees more quickly and conveniently right in Oakland County. The first two cohorts of the program, in January and August 2025, will come along with the opportunity for students to receive additional financial assistance to complete their BSN.

According to an article on Oakland Community College’s website, Peter Provenzano, Jr, the chancellor of Oakland Community College, expressed his enthusiasm for the new program and the opportunities it will provide for students and for the region. He is quoted as saying, “This new partnership with UDM offers our current and graduated Nursing students an easier pathway to earn their bachelor of science in Nursing right on our Southfield campus. It also gives other nurses working or living in Oakland County the chance to earn their BSN closer to home.”

The program, which will take 12 months to complete, is an accelerated pathway for students who already possess an associate degree in nursing to complete their bachelor degree in nursing. Students will take classes on Oakland Community College’s campus in Southfield, Michigan, with faculty from the University of Detroit Mercy leading the courses. The classes will be presented in a mix of online and in-person coursework and can be taken on either a fulltime or parttime basis. The ASN to BSN completion program will cost about $13,500 for students who attend the program full time. Each cohort will have between a dozen and 30 students.

Donald B. Taylor, who serves as the president of the University of Detroit Mercy, shared his thoughts about the partnership, saying, “This new partnership with an institution like Oakland Community College represents another strategic step in helping fill the critical workforce needs in nursing. We are thrilled to work in partnership with Oakland Community College and look forward to many years of successful collaboration.”

Anyone interested in the ASN to BSN completion program is welcome to attend an information session on November 13 or November 20.
