The College Credit Plus program gives students in 7th through 12th grades the opportunity to enroll in college classes and receive credit while still a high school student. The CCP to Degree scholarship will further help participants get their degree at reduced cost.
Belmont College has introduced a new scholarship that will benefit students who are participating in the College Credit Plus program. The College Credit Plus program is a statewide opportunity for 7th through 12th grade students to earn college credit while still in high school, and students who have taken College Credit Plus courses at Belmont College now have the opportunity to receive a scholarship to continue their education at Belmont College after their high school graduation.
According to an article on Belmont College’s website, Bridgette Dawson, who is the school’s Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, was quoted as saying of the new scholarship opportunity, “As College Credit Plus participants, these high school students are already valued Belmont College students. At Belmont, we endeavor to make college affordable for our students, so that emphasis can be placed on academics instead of how to pay for tuition. Whether their destination is the workforce or an advanced degree, starting at Belmont College enables CCP students the opportunity to benefit from lower costs and easy transferability to a four-year institution for degree completion.”
The College Credit Plus program is an Ohio Department of Higher Education initiative that provides free dual-enrollment for high school students who want to attend an Ohio community college or public university. The program, according to its webpage, is intended to provide higher education opportunities to students across the state that will enable them to become Ohio workforce ready.
Students can take up to 30 credit hours per year while still in high school, receive the credit for college, and still receive high school credit, as well. Any credits earned during the summer semester at Belmont College will be applied to the student’s next high school year. The overall benefit of participating in the program is that students will be working toward a college degree while still in high school at no cost to them. The student will be a Belmont College student, so will be afforded all of the benefits as one. Additionally, credits earned during the program are transferable.
The CCP to Degree scholarship will further help students who participated in the College Credit Plus program to go on to earn their degrees for free, as the scholarship will cover the cost of tuition after all other grants and scholarships have been applied to the student’s balance. Students must be Ohio residents and complete the FAFSA to be eligible for the scholarship, which will not cover books, course materials, or other fees.
