Marshall University forms automatic admission partnership with Cabell County School District

Marshall University and the local K-12 school district Cabell County Schools have formed a partnership that entails automatic admission into Marshall University for any high schooler who graduates from the district with a 2.5 GPA or better. Currently, it is estimated that more than 500 high schoolers will qualify for automatic admission.

According to an article on Marshall University’s website, Dr. Ryan Saxe, the superintendent of Cabell County Schools, was quoted expressing his thoughts about this new partnership and what it will mean for Cabell County high schoolers. Dr. Saxe said, “This partnership signifies an amazing opportunity for our students, highlighting our combined commitment to educational advancement for our students. Offering automatic admission to Marshall University for our seniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher does more than open doors to higher education; it broadens their academic horizons and nurtures their aspirations to become a son or daughter of Marshall University. This initiative extends beyond merely accessing university education; it fosters a sense of belonging to Marshall University and our community for our students. The collaborative leadership of President Smith and our Cabell Schools team is a testament to our joint commitment to creating opportunities and forging paths for success, projecting well into the 21st Century for our community and our state. I am incredibly excited for our students to take advantage of this unique opportunity.”

The purpose of the partnership is to help open doors for students to pursue a college education with less stress. By offering automatic admission to students who obtain at least a 2.5 GPA in high school, there is a more streamlined path that will give students easier access to the next step in their education. The Cabell Commitment applies to students who graduate from Cabell County Career and Technology Center, Cabell Midland High School, and Huntington High School. Students who qualify will receive a letter spelling out the next steps.
