Nashville State Community College introduces manufacturing internship program in partnership with Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations

The paid internship program is available to students who are in the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Nashville State Community College.

Nashville State Community College has implemented a new paid internship program for students in its Electrical Engineering Technology program thanks to its partnership with Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations. The internship is available to students in their second year of the program, and may lead to full-time employment upon completion.

According to an article on Nashville State Community College’s website, Peter Ortner, who serves as the Electrical Engineering Technology Program Coordinator at Nashville State Community College, said of the opportunities this new internship program will offer its students, “We are excited to announce this amazing opportunity. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations has partnered with our Electrical Engineering Technology program to have our students work alongside technicians in the facility to gain real-world experience while completing their degree.”

The internship will take place at Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations’ truck and bus radial tire plant in LaVergne, Tennessee. Students will be assigned to a special project that will last the entirety of the 12-month internship. In addition, students will learn preventative maintenance and repairs activities and skills. The internship pays $25 an hour and students will work at least 20 hours per week. After completing the year-long internship and the two-year Electrical Engineering Technology degree, students will be assessed to see if they can take up full-time employment at the LaVergne Tire Plant.

Students in the Electrical Engineering Technology program learn skills like installing circuit systems, circuit analysis and design, and computer technology.

Two students, Brandon Carmona and Jamal Hourel, are currently taking part in the internship program. Carmona is finding his experiences in the internship so far to be beneficial to his education and his future. He is quoted as saying, “As an intern, I’m diving headfirst into real-world challenges. Each day brings new learning opportunities, and I’m excited to contribute my skills to the team. Whether fine-tuning a production line or deciphering intricate schematics, count me in—I’m ready to make my mark at Bridgestone LaVergne.”

Nathan Howdon, who is the plant engineer at Bridgestone LaVergne Tire Plant, said of the program, “Bridgestone Americas is excited to launch this internship program, as it will not only positively impact these students but also the Middle Tennessee region and entire state.”

Ortner noted that this is hopefully only the beginning: “We have hopes of expanding this program to more students as we build our Engineering Technology program,” he said.
