The school took home a total of 31 awards, including the coveted Radio School of the Year and Video School of the Year awards.
Goshen College's Communications Department has won big again this year at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters College Awards Luncheon and Indiana Broadcasters Association’s Spring Career Fair. Among the prestigious awards the school has secured this year are Radio School of the Year and Video School of the Year, in addition to the numerous individual wins achieved by students in the school of Communications.
The projects for which the school as a whole and individuals were recognized for include the school’s radio station, 91.1 The Globe, GlobeTV, and the school’s video production venture, FiveCore Media.
According to an article on Goshen College’s website, Kyle Hufford, who is an associate professor of communication, was quoted sharing praises for the group of students who earned recognition this year, saying, “Every year our students continue to impress me with their dedication and talent. It says a lot about how hard they work and their professionalism to be able to beat out larger schools like Butler, Indiana and Ball State.”
Jason Samuel, who serves as the general manager for The Globe, echoed these sentiments, sharing that he is impressed with the quality of work the students produce. “This group is impressive. We had winners ranging from seniors to first-year students, in a host of categories. Storytelling is their strength and the judges agreed. I’m very proud of our student leaders for taking us across the finish line,” he said.
Goshen College took home the award for Radio School of the Year for the sixth consecutive year, and the 10th time in the past 13 years. The school also earned Video School of the Year this year. While Goshen College did not earn the other three available titles, which were Sports School of the Year, News School of the Year, and Emerging Media School of the year, several of its students earned impressive individual awards.
Amelia Lee, who is a senior Broadcasting major, won first place for Best Video Copywriting and a total of 10 awards across the entire competition, the most of any student. She described the experience, saying, “It’s been rewarding to see not only our success, but to see the next generation of Globe students dominate at IASB this year. It’s been an honor to be part of Globe Media for the past four years and to help pave the future for the students coming after me. I am so excited to see what will come next for this extremely talented group of storytellers.”
Twelve other Goshen College students took home awards in the video division, including Aliah Campbell and Sarah Lopez Ramirez, who earned first place for Best Corporate Video, and Ryan Carrillo and Uziel Romero, who earned third place for Best Music Video.
In the Radio Division, several students earned honors, including Dante Stanton, a senior Broadcasting major, who won first place in Radio Copywriting and third place for Radio On-Air Personality. He also won awards as part of a team: Best Radio Show with Tyson Miller and Kate Bodiker.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work put together by the staff at 91.1 The Globe, Globe TV and FiveCore. It’s an honor to be a part of a staff that’s made the past four years of my life some of the happiest, rewarding and most successful years I could ask for,” Stanton said.
